Assigned the task of opening a new store in Falls Church, Virginia in March 2020, William Randall did what many store managers did in that period – pivot – but on a different and unique level. As original plans for the opening weekend were put on hold and the location became the first store with a positive COVID-19 case, Randall focused on delivering the best and safest experiences for both shoppers and team members.

Service is a priority and principle for Morris Lewis. He has served Brookshire Grocery Company for 26 years and served his country as a member and Sgt. 1st Class of the U.S. Army National Guard, through which he did two tours of duty in Iraq.

The Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE) put a call out to kids and teens to join in a recipe contest, and from all across the country, they responded. As part of the Young Cooks Recipe Challenge, these aspiring chefs were asked to create healthy lunch recipes with food safety steps using the Safe Recipe Style Guide. This contest is everything I love as a registered dietitian all in one: handwashing, food safety, good-for-you foods that align with the Dietary Guidelines, home-cooking, creativity, and fun in the kitchen!

The COVID-19 pandemic forced unprecedented expenditures by state and local governments. Many cities and states now face an uncertain budget picture moving forward. Given this fiscal uncertainty, the FMI State Affairs team is on the lookout for any attempts to impose new taxes on businesses or their customers.
