Join a Community that Champions, Connects, and Elevates!

Your Essential Connection in West Virginia

OMEGA offers three types of membership: Convenience Store Members, Petroleum Marketer Members, and Grocer Members, all of which play a vital role in providing fuel, food, and essentials across West Virginia. As a liaison with state and national agencies, OMEGA works closely with organizations like NACS, PMAA, FMI, and the N.G.A. to advocate on behalf of its members.

We keep members informed through newsletters, legislative updates, an online resource hub, and educational seminars. Additional member benefits include access to the Encova Workers’ Compensation Discount Program and participation in our annual Trade Expo and fundraising efforts for children’s charities. OMEGA is here to support, advocate, and enhance the success of our industry members.

Members of the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI) recently spent time at the Institute of Food Technology (IFT) Conference. This conference is a collection of some of the most creative minds in the science of food and technology arenas. Among other things, attendees made new connections and immersed themselves into a community committed to driving innovation and global sustainability. During the conference, SQFI hosted a booth that gave out information about the Food Safety Auditing Scholarship and Education Travel Grant, which is funded by the FMI Foundation and supported by SQFI and FMI’s Food Safety team.

There were many students in attendance at the IFT Conference, and quite a few of them stopped by the booth to learn about the Scholarship. A majority of the students that stopped by were unaware of the opportunity, but were excited and eager to learn more about it. We even had a previous Scholarship winner stop by the booth and we were able to connect them with one of our Certification Bodies who is currently hiring.

The Foundation supports 10 scholarships/travel grants each year for under grad or graduate students who are enrolled in food and agricultural science programs at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. The ideal applicant needs to have a true interest in the field of accredited food safety auditing and a passion to ensure safe and high quality food is produced, packaged, and distributed to the consumer. In addition to a $3,000 stipend to be used for educational expenses, this grant gives the recipient the opportunity to travel to the SQF International Conference that SQFI puts on in the fall. This “perk” is highly coveted because an all-expenses paid trip is awarded to the winners where they can meet and mingle with 750+ food safety and quality professionals.

The 2015-2016 year yielded the most applicants in the history of the program. Click here to check out past award winners and see if you recognize anyone!

To find out more information about the scholarship and to apply, visit www.fmi.org/foundation/scholarship.
