Henry Armour, president and CEO of the Association for Convenience & Fuel Retailing, visited West Virginia recently. He sat down with The State Journal for a brief conversation on the state of his industry. State of the business
There are 149,000 convenience stores in the United States, up about 2,000 from last year. They do sales of about $700 billion a year, with $501 billion of that being fuel sales. They have 1.9 million employees.

Despite originally wanting to use it as a tool to cut federal spending, House conservatives worked with Senate leadership to raise the debt limit through May 18, 2013 therefore delaying a partisan fight on an issue that could roil U.S. financial markets. However, looming automatic budget sequestration measures are scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2013 and Congress must also fund the government through the end of the fiscal year. Currently, the federal government is operating under a Continuing Resolution (CR) which expires on March 31, 2013. It’s unclear how the debate will play out but several partisan fights over spending cuts and tax increases are a certainty.
With President Obama not eligible to stand for re-election, it is expected that the Administration will aggressively pursue regulations such as those to regulate CO2, Ozone and Particulate Matter. A substantial portion of PMAA resources will be focused on responding to regulatory issues which are likely to intensify. Also, we will continue to seek opportunities to move forward in a divided Congress with our legislative priorities. All past bills of importance to the industry will have to be reintroduced this Congress.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Today, 4,000 West Virginia children receive out-of-home care. In addition, 1,200 children are need to be adopted.
The West Virginia Oil Marketers & Grocers Association (OMEGA) is leading a statewide campaign to raise money for the Children's Home Society of West Virginia to help those children. The campaign will last through Mother's Day on May 12.
